Meet the heavy metal bushwalkers

Jeff and Rob have been mates since school and have played in bands together for many years. While rehearsing together recently the idea of a pilgrimage to Nepal and the Himalayas came up. Preparations began including setting up this site to record our journey to Himalayas as well as our other treks and bush walks before and after. The journal of our preparations is found on this site and the trip itself is recorded under the "Himalayan Adventure 2009" link.

Nepal videos uploaded to You Tube

I have uploaded the videos of the trip to You Tube. To access them click on the You Tube site link on the left. A couple of the videos are embedded below.

Back to Kathmandu

We made great time from Namche to Lukla arriving by lunch time. After getting the room and flight back to Kathmandu organised it was off to the pub for happy hour followed by some Chang.
Luckily the day of the flight was clear and the planes started landing from Kathmandu about 7am. Our flight took off at 8am and I can say that the stories about LUkla airport are 100% correct, it is scary.

Back in Namche

We arrived back in Namche today having completed everything we had planned. There was no internet above Namche hence no posts.
After leaving Namche we took 4 days to reach Gokyo, well acclimatised. This is a very beautiful valley with the scenery changing around every bend in the trail. My cough got worse again and I called into the Health Post at Marchermo. The Doc said I had an infection in my lung so US$113 later plus some anti-biotics in my pocket I was on my way. The cough is still there but it hasn't hindered me too much.

Thame

Today we went to Thame which is just over 3800m. We left around 7:30 and had a pretty hard 3:30 slog but majestic views and the Rhododendrams in bloom along the way made it a worthwhile trip. The people in this valley live a very traditional lifestyle. Living is hard for these people but they are very friendly. The highlight was being touted by a lady who must have been 80 with her trinkets. She is the mother of a monk. We ended up blowing the day's budget on stuff including a ring for Jeff and a Yak bell for Rob.
Got back around 3 very tired and dirty. Will be an early knight.

First batch of photos on Flickr

Finally got to upload some pictures. Follow the Flickr link and then click on the Nepal 2009 album.

On to Namche Bazaar

Finally got some time to post a decent entry. Jeff is upstairs having a lie down feeling tired adjusting to the altitude.

Photos

Hi gang,

Having problems with uploading photos. The landline internet is a bit iffy although wi-fi is great. I should have bought a notebook. There was a Kazak woman here earlier talking for about an hour using video skype to her friends so wi-fi is the go. I will work on the pics but there is another problem here, the mains power only works in any one area for about 8 hours a day and the power in this part of town is going off in about 4 minutes.

Hopefully I will get some pic uploaded in a few days.

An assault on the senses

We arrived in Kathmandu yesterday afternoon after a bumpy ride in from Bangkok - but we are here.

This place is a real assault on the senses. We were picked up the airpport and ensconsed in a hotel before we could scratch our selves.

Have uploded a couple of shots in the gallery. But still trying to organise our trek.
